Hybrid Raman-erbium random fiber laser with a half open cavity assisted by artificially controlled backscattering fiber reflectors

Abstract A hybrid Raman-erbium random fiber laser with a half-open cavity assisted by chirped artificially controlled backscattering reflectors is presented. combination of 2.4 km-long dispersion compensating two highly erbium-doped pieces 5 m length were used as gain media. single emission line centered at 1553.8 nm an optical signal to noise ratio 47 dB obtained when pumped 37.5 dBm. full width half maximum 1 and 100% confidence level output power instability low 0.08 measured. The utilization the new temperature strain sensor also experimentally studied.

We demonstrate a fibre laser source generating ultrashort pulses tunable in the range 2-2.5 μm. The source is based on a hybrid Er/Tm fiber laser system and microstructured suspended-core tellurite fiber where Raman soliton shifting occurs. Nonlinear soliton dynamics is studied and possibility of tuning beyond 3 μm is shown.
